Canvas Grocery Totes

Last year I decided to cease from using plastic bags at the grocery store. I don't know what came over me. I just decided that it was pointless and that I hated bringing those bags home every week when I can just get some canvas ones.

My family and I have also started recycling last year. We use a lot of plastic water bottles and I saw a commercial last year of a huge whale being cut open (after it died) and nothing but plastic bottles fell out of him! I felt horrible! I know I can't save the world but I am hoping that with us recycling I can at least save one whale. Right?

And honestly, I feel good going to the recycling bins and dropping off our bags of bottles, paper, and cans. I feel like we are doing our part to save the world. Is it elegant to recycle? I hope so! But anyway, I wanted to share the lovely canvas totes that I found at T.J. Maxx

These were $5.99 each! Great price right? I purchased 3 and I am sorry but I could not find these online. All I found were these on their website.

They are a great size and I love the illustrations on them!

I had to put them to the test and they passed! I loved having them in the store with me. I think I am hooked on using canvas totes for grocery shopping.

If you use canvas totes for your grocery shopping let me know in the comments section below. I am very curious.

Thanks for reading!

New Curtains & Valances

Ever feel like you need change? I have been feeling that way lately with small little decor items around the home. I wanted to change my curtains in the family room. I wanted something simple and sophisticated.

My husband and I found these great blackout curtains at Costco. I adore them! We have them in the beige color and there seems to be a hint of gray or blue in them. They are lovely!

I also wanted valances for some reason. It has been so long since I have had these. I found these white valances at Walmart and they turned out really well.

The curtains come with two panels so all I had to buy was two for my family room. My husband likes it and so do I.

I hope that you enjoyed this quick little home decor post. Let me know in the comments section if you like valances or not. Have a great Monday!

Charmed by Charlie ~ 3

Hello All! I really need to stop looking for blush items but it seems like every time I tell myself that I end up finding more and more stuff. I am trying to keep my bogus shopping down to a minimal and I believe that I am doing well.

So with that being said, I will share some recent finds that I am trying my very best not to purchase. Let's start with this lovely tote at Charming Charlie.

It is called the Ashland Carry-All

Lovely isn't it? And it comes in 4 different colors and is at a great price of $46!

The second item is this beautiful ambrosia flower bracelet. Oh, I am so trying....

Then I saw these. They are called the Simone earrings. Beautiful rose color and only $14!

Then I scrolled to the next page and found that they had matching earrings to that bracelet. Oh, the flesh is weak!

And last but certainly not least are these blossom earrings.

I think I may have to purchase these! They are so beautiful and at $12 a pair, I don't think I will break the bank that much.

I hope that you enjoyed this post. I am excited to receive my new valances today. I hope that they look well. I am a little paranoid but we will see once the package arrives. Enjoy your weekend!

The Chic Assignments - Jennifer L. Scott

Okay, I have been so excited about this new monthly challenge by my favorite author Jennifer L. Scott called Chic Assignments. Not only am I working on civility but also trying to keep chic elegant activities going on in my life. I love that one of her readers came up with this idea! It's wonderful! With all of the silly challenges that I see on social media, this one is worthwhile.

I believe that most of you are Daily Connoisseur fans so these challenges should not surprise you.

Alright so her first challenge was to listen to classical music. Well, I can check that off on my list because every morning in the office I have my Mozart station on my Pandora already going with my hot cup of tea.

My favorite piece is "Spring": l. Allegro by Takako Nishizaki

You may listen to it here.

Secondly, I don't use the ten-item wardrobe but I have been getting rid of items and selling them on my Poshmark account.

I am actually selling this dress right now on my Poshmark account.

For the third chic assignment, I have been incorporating natural products into my life and home. I have been using the Mrs. Meyer's All Purpose Cleaner. You can view my blog post here about that.

And her last chic assignment was to read a book. I have been reading the Civility Solution, the Woman's Herbal Apothecary, and the Inviting Life: An Inspirational Guide to Homemaking. Like Jennifer, I read about three books at a time.

I have really enjoyed these assignments this month. I can't wait to see what Jennifer has planned for March. Please let me know in the comments section below if you have joined in or intend too! I would love to hear what chic activities you are all inspired to do. Thanks for reading!

Disagree Graciously

I bet this title alone intrigued you. It intrigued me too as it is the chapter that I am now reading in The Civility Solution. I mentioned this book back in December and I am still reading it.

Now that the holidays have passed and work has gone back to normal I can get back on schedule with reading. One of the first sentences in this chapter was, "Rudeness is the ugly face that disagreement shows when it's mismanaged."

I read this sentence twice...

I read it twice because it is true. Haven't we all done this? I know I have. When I don't understand the person that I am communicating with sometimes I can be rude. Honestly, it doesn't happen often with people outside my circle as with people inside my circle.

But I am on a journey to improve my thoughts and emotions when discussing issues with individuals. Dr. Forni says, "when you disagree, focus on the other person's position to gain a full understanding of it and make sure that your disagreements are warranted."

He also asked questions like, " how many times have you argued for the mere sake of arguing? How many times have you turned the discussion into an opportunity to make the other person look bad?"

He then goes on to say, "Success is progress measured against the betterment of a situation, not the defeat of a person." I needed to read that because sometimes that is the goal of an argument. To defeat the other person instead of making the situation better.

He encourages you to start asking yourself radical questions. "Why do you have an urge to prove yourself all the time?" We need to take a good look at our accomplishments. Silence your inner critic and avoid comparing yourself to others.

"The next time you are engaged in confrontation, be aware of the dynamics at work. Stop and think. "Is my insecurity pushing me to prevail at all costs?" Which is more important, that I prevail or that the issue is resolved in the best practical manner?"  Am I even listening to the other person? Is he or she offering good solutions?"

If the other person is unwilling to follow you on this path then you can respond with: "Let's give this some more thought before we talk again." Your hope is that this pause will inject a dose of rationality into the situation.

And lastly, if you are in a marital disagreement Dr. Forni suggests not to communicate that dismissive, "I don't understand to "Help me to understand." That does sound better and it suggests that you are open to their ideas and help.

Well, I hope that you enjoyed this small chapter from Dr. Forni's book and may have found some information on helping you on your path to disagreeing graciously. Happy Monday!

Monique Lhuiller Rose Cosmetic Bag

It's Friday and I am ready for a long weekend. I hope all of you had a wonderful Valentine's Day! I shared on my Instagram account my double rose bouquet that I received from my husband. I was so surprised to receive it! You could smell them down the hall. It was amazing!

I also got another surprise too. My Monique Lhuillier floral cosmetic bag arrived yesterday!

I actually ordered it the first week of February but was told that there was a long back order list and that they were not sure if it would be sent. I called earlier this week and was finally told that my bag would be in the first shipment and that I should receive my order.

It finally arrived yesterday and I could not be more excited! It is lovely!

It is a very large cosmetic bag and had these tags on the inside. You can just rip them out once you receive it.

Love the Monique Lhuillier tag on the inside. It is very chic!

A small pocket is located on the inside too.

Also love the gold hardware. It looks so classic!

I put my items in asap! I can't wait to use it this spring and summer. It looks so feminine and chic. Also, here is a photo of my gorgeous Valentine's Day roses. I just love this picture. I hope that you all enjoy your weekend and thanks for reading!

Winter Blush Pump

If I had a flag it would probably be blush because I can't seem to stay away from this color. I love it so much and whenever I see it I just have to buy it. The next lovely blush item that I found were these great classic pumps from the Gap.

This is the classic suede pump in dusty rose pink. It also comes in true black. Better hurry quick and order a pair. They are going fast!

I love the pointed toe and the 3-inch heel. They truly are classic!

I hope that you can grab a pair soon. The dusty rose color is selling pretty fast and at $31.99 I would not be surprised if they sold out this week! It is truly a beautiful staple item to have in your wardrobe.

As always I hope that you enjoyed this post and Happy Hump Day!

The Tiffany Blue Tea Set

It's always great when your husband finds a beautiful gift for you. This past weekend my husband found this wonderful new teapot for me at Davids Tea.

This is called the jolly teapot and it is absolutely beautiful! It is a gorgeous tiffany blue color.

It has beautiful gold hardware and a gorgeous gold infuser.

Now you can buy the teacup and teapot separately but why in the world would you do that!

It is a beautiful set and I loved using it this weekend. I will be taking it to work to enjoy for this week. I hope that you enjoyed this find. If you order it or go and take a peek at it let me know your thoughts. It is a very beautiful set to look at. Enjoy!!!!

The Winged Tote

I am so thrilled to share with everyone today this great tote that I found at Target. It is called the winged tote handbag and I actually found it walking around my local store. I saw it in the navy and I thought, "I wonder if they have this in a different color." So I checked online and they had three other colors.

The color that I ordered is called blush of course and it is so pretty in person! I was a little apprehensive about the snake print handles but they look great!

The size is great and there is PLENTY of room!

Gold "feet" on the bottom, wonderful feature.

It looks like it's double the size of my other blush tote. Both look so chic together by the way.

This is a wonderful tote if you are looking for something that is large, classic and elegant. This could be a wonderful work bag for anyone and make sure that you check out those other colors too! Enjoy!

An Affordable Day Designer

Last year in June, I shared my new day designer here in the blog and I have been using it religiously every day since.

I love my planner and it does keep me in order. I write everything in it and check it daily. It comes with me to the office just in case something comes up and I need to write it down. Love my planner! But since the year is beginning to wind down on it I went to the website to see about ordering a new one. Then I remember how expensive it was. The original price is $59 and that does not include shipping. It can be pretty pricey.

So I began my internet search trying to figure out if there was another one out there that was comparable but there wasn't.  I love my day designer and wanted that one. But as fate would have it guess where I found the day designer much cheaper?

Target.... that's right Target is carrying the day designer! Now it is not as big as the original two that I have but it has everything you need to plan your life. So this past weekend I took a trip to see if my local location had it and they did!

This is the 7x9 planner in floral blush. It has the gold cover ends on it too. A favorite and chic feature that I love.

And here it is in the floral navy matte. I purchased this one because I already have it on the first print. Can you believe it is only $14.99? My heart just sang when I saw it.

Very pretty on the inside.

They also have it in the notebook style if you prefer that.

Then I looked up and a smaller 5x8 version was available as well. It's small enough to fit inside a purse.

And last but certainly not least they had a wall version or desk top version available. The price for this was only $9.99. Outstanding right?

I can't tell you how thrilled I am to find my favorite planner at Target. The price is just too wonderful to pass up. There are more designs on the website if you are interested. These would also be great birthday presents as well or maybe gifts for future college students. If you have a local Target go and take a peek at them. They are very beautiful!

Winter Square Sunglasses

I have really been enjoying my weekends lately. I changed my cleaning schedule to break-up my chores throughout the week instead of a whole day of cleaning on Saturday or Sunday. That was starting to drive me nuts and ruin my weekends.

But since I have made that change it has given me more time to find items on the internet. Bad.... very bad. Like these great winter sunglasses from Ann Taylor.

They are a beautiful, classic pair of sunglasses to have during the cold. I still wear sunglasses in the winter. They help with my contacts and helps me to easily ignore men! Ha!

I got them for a great price. I only paid $25 last week! Not too bad for a pair of square sunglasses which are my favorite shape.

Well, I hope that you enjoyed this find and Happy Monday to everyone!

Smelling the Garden in Winter

Hello Friday! It has been a brutal week weather-wise here in Indiana. On Wednesday the windchill factor was -35! But we had it easy compared to Minnesota whose windchill factor was -65!! Good golly!

So cold! I keep telling myself, "okay the nurses at my daughter's school said years ago that we need things to freeze so that they may die". Okay, are they dead yet because it's COLD! Alright, let's move on. I am looking forward to spring as many of you are and my favorite company has delivered a little bit of it already.

I went online a few days ago to check out new scents at Bath and Body Works and discovered beautifully decorated candles and wonderful new scents. I was so excited!

First things first, they brought back an oldie but goodie flower shop! I was so happy to see this candle. I had to purchase at least two for right now. My candle is the plain white one at the bottom. I must admit I hated that x and o wrapping on it. That was hideous to me so I had to take it off. Other than that I am so happy to have my favorite return.

The next scent that I purchased was water hyacinth. I believe this is a new scent and is absolutely wonderful if you like hyacinth, bergamot, and water lily. Very refreshing, fragrant and just look at the wrapping. Very chic!

And many of you may have already seen this photo on my Instagram account but this is the last fragrance that I purchased and it is called garden greenery. It is lovely and just look at the wrapping on this? Gorgeous right? The notes in this candle are apricot, fresh basil, and bright mint leaves. The apricot is strong in this one but it is lovely.

I also purchased cucumber lily a few weeks ago and loved that one too! The notes in that candle are fresh cucumber, green tea, and lily of the valley. All of the candles have essential oils and burn very well. Love seeing all of the floral wrapping on these candles. Makes it a joy to look at them too!

Well, I hope that you enjoyed this post and that if you are in a cold climate like me I hope that these floral candles helped you to forget what horrible wind is lurking outside. Enjoy your weekend!
